The Growth Series

The Growth Series

The Growth series are workshops aimed at more established creative professionals, freelancers, creative companies and art organizations. Each workshop builds on a topic from the previous series and takes learning a step forward towards a sustainable and successful professional life in the creative industries.

As with all of our workshops, each workshop can be delivered as a single 2-hour unit or combined with others to create a bespoke learning program for your participants. All workshops can be delivered in person or online.

Deal or no deal

How do you say no? How do you negotiate your fees and manage your professional relationships? Communication, mediation and conflict resolution are essential parts of running a business, but many creatives never learned the basics.

Deal or No Deal is a friendly introduction to the basics of better communication, practiced in a safe environment, with practical exercises focusing on negotiation tactics, mediation and conflict resolution.

Social skills

Creative companies have unique and challenging staffing needs – the need for talented and loyal people without the reliable turnover that an employee’s services can guarantee. We need a complicated mix of freelancers, interns, casual collaborators and friends – so how is a creative company supposed to find and retain smart people? People : Skills is a hands-on workshop that explains the value of job descriptions, including tips on how to write a compelling interview and find references, how to use recruitment agencies, how to book freelancers, how to be a good boss and more.

pitch face

Pitching is a necessary part of professional creative practice, whether discussing an idea for a work, talking to funding agencies about a project, or participating in a competitive pitching process or contest. It is full of legal and marketing challenges and needs to be approached in a thoughtful and strategic manner. Pitch face is a relaxed workshop that provides practical advice on how to tell your best story, how to protect your ideas and simple tips and tricks to avoid and build long-lasting relationships with the people who can help bring your ideas to life .

Make your own work

How often are creatives told to “make their own work”? And what exactly does it mean? Make Your Own Work takes a tough love approach to producing a self-imagined project, from the initial stage through to completion.

Along the way, we’ll cover legal requirements, the role of a producer, challenges to watch out for and tips for building a sustainable career. It caters to practitioners of every aspect of the arts, from screen to performance to fine art and more.

Be good

Working in the creative industry is both strenuous and rewarding. How can you keep a relative balance between blooming and falling, especially when your output is built with emotion? Being Well explores ways creative professionals can consciously bring wellness practices into their daily lives.

Led by a creative industry specialist and wellness guru, this interactive workshop is an assessment of your wellbeing agenda so you can stay creative for the long haul.

Cultural tourism

For small to medium-sized cultural and creative organizations, cultural tourism can also be an effective way to generate income, connect with the community and help define a region or place as a cultural and artistic destination.

In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn how to maximize the special features that distinguish their organization from others, such as their history, traditions, art and culture.
